DIVA Challenge 248-Give the Gift of Zentangle

This is the last DIVA Challenge of the year!  Wow, another year that has flown by!  I was busy with lots of travel, projects, friends, and family, but I still managed to do all the DIVA challenges this year.  Some even while traveling, which required some learning on my part....how to post and download pics from my iPad.  It's fun for me to figure out new tech stuff, since that's not part of my world any longer.  This week's challenge is to give the gift of Zentangle (something you made) to someone in your life.  I also love to both give and receive handmade gifts!  Such a treasure!
These two ceramic ornaments will be gifts for my daughters this year.  I like to give them an ornament every year for keepsakes from me.  My tree is full of keepsakes.  A lot of them are from a very dear friend of mine who is no longer with us, and every year that I decorate the tree, I have such good memories of the years she gifted ornaments to me.  Great challenge to end the year with, Laura!

Wishing all you a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year!

Loveland Lights at Loveland Library

The Friends of the Library put on a Holiday event every year at the Loveland Library, called Loveland Lights.  They have all sorts of things going on at this 2 day event, gingerbread house making for the kids, origami classes, spinning demo/sales, tatting demo/sales, crochet demo/sales, model trains, and all kinds of wonderful holiday music.  We were entertained with the Hurdy Gurdy, harp, trumpet, and a variety of choirs.   I was invited to share Zentangle with make & takes, and to sell some of my Zentangle Inspired Art.  I had a prime location in the center of everything, and had a lot of fun.  I sold note cards, bookmarks, Christmas ornaments, etc., and got 3 1/2 sheets of emails for future classes.   My thanks to the Friends of the Library for inviting me to your wonderful event!

DIVA Challenge 246 Monotangle Trees

Dilip Patel/CZT is the guest at the DIVA challenge this week.  Dilip has challenged us to use only one tangle (monotangle) to create a tree.  I have been into using Isochor a lot lately, so I used it for the challenge to create my monotangle tree.  It's a rather simplistic looking tree, and I thought maybe I should do another, but it is what I had time for this week.  Thanks for the challenge, Dilip and Laura!

DIVA Challenge 243: Just a Tiny Taste

This week we had a fun and interesting challenge from the DIVA!  She told us to...

INTENTIONALLY LEAVE THE MAJORITY OF YOUR TILE EMPTY.... giving the tile just a tiny taste of tangle.
I have to agree with Laura, that this challenge was harder then you would think!  We are so used to filling up our tiles, except for maybe a space or two, and leaving so much of the tile white was hard to do!

I did enjoy it though, so I did two tiles!

INKtober Day 31 Rocks

I finished my last day of INKtober on time, but forgot to post it yesterday! INKtober has been fun for me to make sure I tangle something every day, which actually wasn't too hard as I do tangle almost every day anyway. For the last day I am posting my painted rocks. If you have been to my house, you know that I have these rocks scattered along the path that leads to my front door. Some of the rocks are tangled, some painted, some dotted, and some Mandala's. They are always a conversation piece and my neighbors love them. I made this one for one of my neighbors........

These are some more of the others......

DIVA Challenge #241 Stones & Ceremony/INKtober Day 29

The DIVA Challenge this week is guest hosted by Paula Bramante, CZT 15.

Paula says:
My current fascination is with stones and ceremony. Maybe you are familiar with cairns, those crowd-sourced stone piles that serve to mark the path of trails in out-of-the way places. (I say crowd-sourced because cairns are often formed by wayfarers contributing to the pile, one stone at a time).
I invite you to trust in your intuition as you move toward your own vision of stones and ceremony with pen in hand and blank tile before you.

I happen to have hiked a lot in the past 20 years in Rocky Mountain National Park and other places in Colorado, so I am very familiar with rock cairns.  Since I am directionally challenged, there have been a few hikes where I was really glad to see rock cairns marking my way!  It's funny, with all the hikes I have done, I have taken so many beautiful photo's, but not many of cairns.  There is one hike in the Flatirons of Boulder that has a field full of rock cairns.  I could not find my photo's and I am short on time today, so I did find this image of the place I am talking about online.  There are so many cairns there, you can't fit all of them in a photo! Of course, I had to add a rock to one while I was there. Very cool!

I did my challenge on a tan tile and just drew my own rock cairn. Then I had a little fun taking photos of it outside. It just needed to be with nature!  I liked all the photo's so I am sharing them all.

INKtober Day 27

Every once in awhile I think it is fun just to do a monotangle (one tangle pattern) on your tile.  The bijou tiles are great for this, but so are the regular tiles because you can see what a tangle looks like in a bigger size.  Here is Ixorus as a monotangle....

DIVA Challenge 240/Birthday Leaves & INKtober Day 21

This week the DIVA challenged us to be inspired by the season. I love fall and all the beautiful colors of the leaves.  I sketched a simple leaf on a tan tile and added watercolor.  Then I tangled in 2 shades of brown Micron pens.  I shaded around the outside and added highlights with a white charcoal pencil.  I really love how the leaves shimmer and shine on a nice bright day in the fall, so I added some clear glitter gel pen on top of the white highlights.  It is very pretty on the tile, but does not photograph very well. This is my INKtober Day 21 also.

INKtober Day 20

For Day 20 I created a Zendala on a pre-strung tan Renaissance tile.  I love working on the tan tiles and using a black, brown (2 shades), and red Micron pen.  The magic happens when you shade it and use the white charcoal pencil for highlighting.

Zentangle Basic's Class

I had the pleasure of sharing the Zentangle method of art with 4 new tanglers.  After 5 years, I still enjoy teaching the Zentangle Basic's class!  It's so fun to see new people get excited about the art they created.  Another bonus for me.... they are all interested in taking more classes, so I will get to know them better, and have the pleasure of sharing more with them.  So much fun!  Thank you, Lisa, Debbie, Marian, and Kaity, it was wonderful meeting all of you!

Here are their beautiful tiles!  Sorry the second picture is out of focus (operator error).

INKtober Day 19

For day 19 I used another of the pre-strung tiles from Zentangle, Inc.

INKtober Day 17

Have you ever used Zentangle.com's pre-strung tiles?  I love them!  I have done all of them from their 1st pack, and now I just broke open their "2nd addition" pack today.  When you make your sting you are not supposed to plan it, just quickly make a line or lines and start tangling.  For me that is easier said then done sometimes.  I want to make sure I do something different, so a really easy way is to use the pre-strung tiles....no thinking involved.  It's literally grab one and go for it!

For this tile I use the Twinkling H2O's watercolor paints.  I thought I was going to do blue and green again, but what I thought looked like blue in the jar, really came out purple on paper.  I went ahead and added my green, and quickly realized it needed another color, so I added copper.  This string took a lot of tangles, and I think it has a Halloween feel to it.

INKtober Day 16

For Day 16 I did a acrylic paint wash on a pre-strung Zendala tile.  I then tangled it with blue and green pens.  Shaded with color pencils and added some white highlights.  I am not really crazy about it, but I'm not sure I will have time to do another, so I am posting it anyway.

DIVA Challenge #239 Munchin Play & INKtober Day 15

Doing the double duty posting again!  Using this post for both the DIVA challenge and INKtober Day 15.  This week is a fun challenge using Molly Hollibaugh's tangle, MUNCHIN!  Looks like I have been approaching this tangle in the wrong way, until I saw Molly's video.  Now it makes it soooooooooo easy!  Make sure you take the time to watch Molly's video!  I wanted to use the black tiles too, but instead of a white pen I tried a couple of different pens.  Here's what I did.....

On this first one I used Sakura's gelly roll MOONLIGHT pens in blue and light green.  I went back and covered a triangle shape in black over the top....love the dramatic look to doing that!

Then I tried a Sakura gelly roll METALLIC pen in gold.  I found that it was hard to cover the the Metallic pen with black, so I went in with the gold pen and outlined the black area.....kind of like that.

I really liked how the Metallic pens sparkled and illuminated the black tiles, so I did another one with a lot of different colors.  I did not blacken any areas, but I added some little puffs to some of the tips with the Zenstone.

All three side-by-side.....

Thanks for the great video, Molly!  I have a new love of Munchin!  Thanks for the challenge, Laura! Love those boys of yours and their school pics!

INKtober Day 12

I really loved seeing all the white on black tiles done by Maria Thomas, Co-Founder of Zentangle!  If you missed them, take a look at this link to their blog.  I haven't done one for awhile, so I used a blank black zendala tile, put on some zenstone shavings, tangled with a Micron 08 black pen, then added the white with a Sakura gel penThe black kind of disappeared so I traced over it with a #1 graphic pen.  Then added some aura's and tipple.  At the end I added one line around the outer aura with a blue Sakura moonlight gel pen.  It's really hard to photograph black tiles, and see all the details, especially late in the day.  It has more depth in person.
