Zentangle Cartouches

Every so often Zentangle Inc. comes out with a Project Pack and it's usually something new to learn and for CZT's to share with their students.  Project Pack 5 was released in March and the videos were released starting April 12th-19th, one each day.

Project Pack 5 has us learning about Cartouches! Per their newsletter:

A cartouche is a decorative frame surrounding an image or an inscription. It also refers to the oblong figure that encloses a sovereign's name on ancient Egyptian monuments. They taught us how to apply the Zentangle Method to the art of adorning photos, letters, memorabilia, and ephemera.

If you'd like to purchase the project pack and follow along with the videos, see this
LINK to their newsletter.

This was really a fun project and I'm looking forward to doing more!

The story behind the locket: My Mom died quite young at the age of 46 and her mother also had died in her 40's, before any of us 7 kids were born.  I was 18 when she died and my Dad gave me this locket of hers.  Inside is a picture of my grandma, I never knew.  I don't recall ever seeing another picture of her, although I'm sure there had to be more in Mom's family.  I then put mom's picture in there and it's been in my jewelry box ever since.  I thought this was the perfect time to get it out, decorate it with a cartouche and put it in a beautiful frame on my dresser.

This is the wedding picture of my grandparents on my Dad's side. They were married in May, 1924 and went on to have a family of 12 children, of which my Dad is the oldest.  I've always loved this picture and wanted to decorate it with a cartouche. Look at that beautiful frame with gold perfs and mooka!

This is just a fun picture of 2 of the grand kiddos!

The youngest grandchild from a few months ago.
Doug has dubbed her the "Princess Pea"!

ValenTangle 2019 Part 1

ValenTangle is a 14 day journey to explore heart tangles, create art, connect, and generate love. It was created 4 years ago by Marguerite Samama, CZT.  She wrote a great pdf file for use to follow each day, created a love fragment, and a Facebook group for us to post our work in.

I decided to follow along with ValenTangle 2019, thinking I might do one or two of the 14 days and I ended up all 14 of them.  I am posting my work in 3 parts due to the number of pictures involved.

This was really a fun challenge and I am so inspired by the art that was posted to the FB group!  Some incredibly beautiful tiles!

Day 1:  Getting to know and play with the new love fragment.....

Day 2:  Tangle Ratoon around a heart.....

Day 3:  Tangle a small space on your tile.....

Day 4:  Create a 3Z mosaic puzzle....

DIVA Challenge 384 Anthem

This month's Use My Tangle challenge is the tangle Anthem by Jody Genovese.  I had never used this tangle before but love the 3D look it has.  I made it a monotangle with a zen gem in the center.  Since I had my colored pencils out for the gem, I used them to color the rest of the tangle.  Thanks for stopping by!

DIVA Challenge #383 Ratoon

For this week's challenge the DIVA is asking us to try the new official tangle, Ratoon.  This tangle was introduced at ZenAgain2018 so I had the pleasure of learning it directly from Molly (the creator). It's a fun tangle with a lot of steps, but once you practice it several times it gets easier.  What I like about it is how you can continue to vary it each time.

Fun with Ratoon.........

Black Tile with chalk pastel pencils and gold glitter pen

Traditional white tile with black pen. Ratoon, Striping, and  Printemps (weighted)

Random act of Zentangle tangled and left on the plane on the way home from ZenAgain.

Zendala Moments 01

Annette at Lonetta's Crea(R)tives is hosting a Zendala inspiration where she will post a zendala string template on the 15th of each month for any and all to join it.  As Annette says, I too loved to join in when Erin used to host the Zendala Dare on her site, so I am happy to see this! Here is the link to the first Zendala Moments on Annette's blog: https://lonetta13.blogspot.com/2019/01/zendala-moments-1.html

DIVA Challenge #381

This week's challenge is to use a "Happy (new) Medium".  In other words something you never have tangled with before or something brand new.  I looked around my art table and decided to use 4 different colors of LePen to tangle with and 4 different Prismacolor pencils to shade with. I may have used one or two of these pens before but not all 4 together, a nice combination of blues and greens.

I just stuck with a traditional tile, border, string and easy tangles. Then added a couple of Aura's around the outside border.

TANGLES:  Flux, Crescent Moon, Fracus, Perk, Static, Diva Dance (rock n roll)

I hope you are all having a good week.  My baby turns 27 today....oh my, how time flies!

DIVA Challenge #380 Zenbuttonz, and more

First of all a big Congratulations to the DIVA, Laura Harms/CZT for 8 years of doing her weekly challenge on her blog!  What a amaZing accomplishment!

As some of you know I was one of the people with her from the beginning and did every challenge up to #325 when I severely dislocated and broke my right wrist of my dominant hand.  I missed 20 challenges then and came back for another 12 or so.  Then I was out of the weekly habit and now have missed a few off and on.  I am going to try and do better this year and get back into doing them again.  I really enjoy the challenges, watching Laura's kids grow and change, and seeing all the art from everyone involved in the weekly challenge.....I've missed you guys!

This week's challenge in Laura's words...Spundala...Zendala....Zenbuttonz....it's a circle.

I've love seeing and doing a few of these Zenbuttonz since they first appeared on FB.  I never got a spinner,  just one more rabbit hole to go down, and believe me I'm in enough right now.  Since you don't really need one to do these Zenbuttonz, I've been doing them by just drawing circles and dividing the circles in sections, like a Zendala. Then I add color with colored pencils, markers, or whatever strikes me that day.  The only thing different I've been doing is using Reticula and Fragments to fill in the sections.  I'm sure most all of you have heard about Reticula and Fragments from Rick and Maria.  If not, you need to get their book, "The Zentangle Primer 1", which explains it in detail.

I also went back go ZenAgain (a reunion of CZT's) last Nov. (still need to blog about that) and they released a new book called,  "A Zentangle Collection of Reticula and Fragments".  They started collecting art work for this book from all the CZT's that were at ZenAgain2016.  I am honored to have my art work in this book!  It's a pretty neat book that's fun to use and the proceeds all go to the Zentangle foundation, which helps provide scholarships for people to attend CZT training.

My Work

More of my work on bottom row

If you are still with me, here is my Zenbuttonz for the challenge.  I used a tan tile, traced some circles , and used Tombow markers (water based) to make the background color. Once it was dry, I tangled using a black and brown Micron and Reticula and Fragments.
I do love making these Zenbuttonz!

I haven't been blogging very much at all.  Maybe, I'll get better in 2019, but no promises.  It's just been easier for me to put my work on IG and FB.  If you are on either, you can follow me at Tangled Ink Art on both.  Thanks for your visit!
