Challenge #103 Moebius Syndrome Awareness

This week's challenge from the DIVA, is to use the Moebius Syndrome Foundation's logo as our string.  If you are new to the DIVA challenges, you can read all about Moebius Syndrome on Laura's blog with the link.  Her adorable little son, Artoo, has this congenital nerve disorder so Laura is raising awareness of this condition.  Sending love & hugs to little Artoo, and the entire Harms family!

The ribbon is actually done in purple, although it looks blue in the photo.

TOW?  What is TOW?  There is a wonderful Zentangle Inspired Art group on Yahoo.  They do all kinds of projects and swaps throughout the year.  Anyone can join this group and be as active as you choose to be.  Unfortunately, I don't usually have the time to do a lot with this group, but I am going to try and join in on this new project called TOW when I can.  TOW stands for tangle of the week and each week they will challenge you to try out a different tangle.  Once you are done with you tile, you can post it in the photo section of the group.  It's always fun to see all the different ways one tangle can be interpreted.  This week the tangle is Bales which is one of the official zentangle patterns.  I always teach this tangle in my beginning classes because it is so pretty and can have so many variations. If you haven't checked out this ZIA group on Yahoo yet, I encourage you to do so.  You can link to them from the button on the right side of my blog called....Zentangle Inspired Art.  Hope to see your work in some of the TOW challenges this year!

Diva Challenge #102 Auraknot & Bunzo

Another duo tangle challenge from the diva this week.  This time it is to use the tangles Auraknot and Bunzo together.  As I have stated before, I love the duo tangle challenges!  They are often two tangles that you don't think of putting together, so these challenges are always fun to see what everyone comes up with.  Thanks again, Laura for stretching our creativity with another fun challenge!

Tangle*A*Day Calendar 2013 (Jan 1-12)

I wrote an earlier post  about using my Tangle*A*Day calendar to try new tangles and I found that as I was going along practicing new tangles (ones that I have never used before) on each day, I really wanted to try them in a tangled piece.  So, change in plans for my calendar....now I will try new tangles for 9 days in a row, then on days 10-12 I will draw a string across all three days and try out the 9 new tangles I just practiced.  I really want to try and continue this through the end of the year, so to keep myself accountable I will post them to my blog every 12 days or so.  I found it interesting when I was doing the 3-day tangle that even though these were tangles I wouldn't have normally put together, it still worked.  I am really a creature of habit and love sticking to my comfort tangles, so this will be a good challenge for me to break out of that comfort and get on with the new.  I hope if you follow along, you will see and try some new (for you) tangles and give them a try too!

P.S.  I couldn't resist throwing in a few Zingers too!

Tangle*A*Day Calendar 2013 (Jan 1-3)

I love the new Tangle*A*Day Calendar from Carole Ohl at Open Seed Arts!  The paper is an off-white color this year (♥) and still nice and heavy to tangle on as in the past (without getting bleed- through).  The past couple of years I started out really gung-ho with the calendar and try to do something every day or at least each week, but somewhere along the line as the months go by, I use it less and less and I'm not sure why.  It's me, I get too busy with other projects, teaching classes, etc. and my poor little calendar that I love sits on my desk begging to be opened, along with a couple of journals.  Half of last years 2012 is empty, but I will never throw it away!  Oh no, it is still great for practicing in even if the days have pasted.  I keep them as journals that I can still use and look back on, which is always fun to do, to see how your style has changed and how much you have grown as an artist.

Speaking of growing....I gave up some time ago trying to keep up with all of the new tangle patterns that come out every week.  I usually print out the ones I like and put them in a 3 ring binder.  I now have 3 binders and refuse to start a 4th!  I have seen some really great tangle organization plans, but I don't think I have it in me to catalog them all....maybe some day.  Thank goodness for Linda Farmer at Tangle Patterns, and Genevieve Crabe's Weekly Roundup's or I would miss so many of them....you ladies ROCK!

If you are still with me, I decided this year to try and use my calendar to try out a new tangle every day or maybe for a couple of days, at least that's what I am going to start out doing. :)  They may not be new tangles, but they will be ones that I never tried before (and there are lots of those).  Even though I get the new tangle emails and the PDF from Tangle Patterns and the Weekly Roundup each week, I have time to look at them, but don't practice doing them and I am a hands on learner so I am hoping this will be a way for me to discover more patterns to use.  If nothing else, I should have a great little journal of patterns and not another 3 ring binder!  No more printing patterns, so I will be saving paper too.  I may not post them every 3 days, but will try to post them often.  Who knows, you may see one that you missed over the years too and give it a try!

Tangles: Miander, Kabbidge, Afreeka
