Weekly Wednesday Sneak Peek #6

Oh my gosh, I am at week #6 already!  We have been having a great time for the past 9 days with family here from out of state for my nephew's wedding.  The last family members leave Friday, except for my sister MaryAnn from Wisconsin.  She wanted to stay and help me prepare for the Art Show.  What a treat it will be to have her here for almost a month! So, next Monday, it's back to work, getting ready for the art show in the final 2 weeks.  This week's sneak peek are a sample of some Zentangle Inspired Art cards that I will be selling.

Challenge #80 Mi2

The Diva's Weekly Challenge has us playing with Mi2, a wonderful tangle by CZT Mimi Lempart.  I have been a huge fan of this tangle since it came out in March.  I consider this one of the true Zentangle patterns that looks so complicated, but when it's broken down it's really quite simple, yet looks so elegant!  Ahhh,  the true beauty of Zentangle!

I don't have time to write more this week, as we have had out of state relatives staying with us last week and this week.  Everyone was in town to attend my nephew, Justin's wedding.  Not only were we celebrating the happy occasion of the wedding, but the fact that he just served a tour over in Afghanistan safely, and is on leave to get married and return with his beautiful bride Julie, to Germany. Congrats Justin & Julie!  Life is good!!!

Weekly Wednesday Sneak Peek #5

This Wednesday my sneak peek feature is paper earrings. That's right....paper earrings!  I first heard about this on the Certified Zentangle Teacher's page on Facebook.  You use 140lb watercolor paper, so it's quite heavy and when you are done tangling on them you coat the front and back with decoupage, which makes them even stronger.  I think they are quite fun and unique!  I just have them hanging on a sheet of black paper now, but I will be displaying them differently for the art fair.

Challenge #79 Citius, Altius, Fortius

This week's DIVA challenge is brought to you by guest challenger, Rho Densmore/ CZT.  In honor of the upcoming Olympic games, we are challenged to do something with the Olympic rings. The title of the challenge means, Swifter, Higher, Stronger.   A little bit of history that Rho shares is:

The Olympic Ring emblem was also created by Pierre de Coubertin in 1894 and the intention of his design was to be representative of the five inhabited continents of the world which at that time had chosen to participate in the Olympic spirit of healthy competition. The five interlocking rings colored, blue, black, red, yellow, green, and white background are colors in which at least one appears every national flag at this time.
The motto for the current Olympic Games was proposed by Pierre de Coubertin to the International Olympic Committee back in 1894 who also helped define the true intention of participating in the Olympic games with this quote:

“The most important thing is not to win but to take part!"

I love how Rho compared this to the Zentangle process, "It is this same message that is at the heart of Zentangle, the outcome is not as important as the process. It is the journey each one of us takes one stroke at a time, every time we take our pen and put it to paper".

I have always loved watching the Olympics, and I'm am looking forward to seeing the games this year!  Thank You, Rho for your wonderful words and great challenge.

My tile is rather simplistic with Auraknot done for the flame and star.
I did like how the sunlight and shadow made the photo look.

Teen Zentangle Class

I taught a Zentangle class for teens yesterday at the Loveland Public Library.  This was part of their summer reading program and was sponsored by the Friends of the Loveland Public Library Foundation.  What a great group of kids to hang out with! We had a lot of fun and as you can see by their smiling faces, they loved learning about Zentangle.  Take a look at their fantastic art work too!  Thanks, Michelle, for all of your work getting this set up!

Challenge #78 AURAKNOT

This week's challenge, from Laura Harms has us trying out the new official tangle from Rick & Maria at Zentangle.  What a fun tangle this one is!  At first it's a little tricky and it definitely takes a bit of concentration, but with a little practice, you can quickly get the hang of it.  Of course, I always love when Rick & Maria do a video with a new tangle because they always give you lots of hints and variations. It also helps all of us who are visual learners. You can link to it from the challenge page, of from my blog (under links).
I look forward to playing with this tangle more.  I hope you join in on the challenge!

Right now my Hydrangea's are beautiful, so I had to photograph my tiles with them...enjoy!

Weekly Wednesday Sneak Peek #3

If you are new to my blog, I am doing a 8-week Wednesday Sneak Peek feature to show you some of the Zentangle Inspired Art I have made for my 1st Art & Craft Fair in August.  For week #3, I am showing some of the mandala's I made starting with an apple peeler/corer template.  That's right, the kitchen gadget most of have,  makes a wonderful template for a mandala!  I first learned of this great little tool on CZT, Margaret Bremner's blog and have used it a lot ever since.  It's a simple little template, but the results are always so different (just like Zentangle).  I apologize for the picture of the 3 together in the frame...got a little glare off the glass and I was too lazy to take it out for the photo.

I hope you all enjoy a wonderful and safe 4th of July!

Challenge #77 UMT: "Fiore di Pietro"

The first Monday of each month is UMT (Use My Tangle) at the Diva's blog.  This month the tangle is Fiore di Pietro, from Rho Densmore, CZT.  Rho created this tangle as a tribute to her brother-in-law.  She is going to make up some books with all of the tangle art that is submitted and give it to his immediate family.  I had already seen Rho's request on Facebook and emailed her my tile to use, so I am cheating a little by posting the same tile here for the challenge.  This will really be a beautiful collection of work for her family.  Thanks Rho, and Laura!

Zendala Color Fun

Just having a little fun last night, trying watercolor pencils with a pre-strung Zendala tile.  I like how it turned out.....
